Work at Relive

Life at Relive

Remote First
When doing things at Relive, we are biased towards a remote approach. We call it Remote First. It means our way of working enables remote working for everyone. It's up to you where you want to work. We trust you to spend your time wisely.

How?
Communication is key. We keep in touch with each other through Slack and Zoom. Not just for work specific things, but also to keep in touch on a personal level. To keep track of our projects and tasks we use Asana/Linear.

Teams
Many of us are a part of a product team, which is a cross functional team that consists of a Product Manager, Engineering Manager, two Full Stack Developers, Product Designer and Product Analyst.

Each team has a clear focus on a certain segment of the funnel but that can and will evolve as we grow. Currently we have 2 product teams, their focus is on helping users to understand their health, helping users to interact with other Relive users, getting users to participate in engaging challenges, and letting users form awesome communities on Relive. Before you join we’ll let you know your team and focus area.

The team itself can change focus at any moment depending on the needs of the business (e.g. we discover a new opportunity area then we will pivot towards it) and the team members can change. Ideally we want everyone to spend minimum 6 months in a team, and ideally longer. But we want to give people the option to grow and explore horizontally so moving to a different team and a different focus is always possible. You are joining a mission and the part you play in that can and will shift, that’s part of being in a startup.

Teams start their day with a stand-up meeting, usually at 9:30 and work from Monday to Thursday together, leaving Friday for overflow or other tasks.

Our culture

Over time you will experience the Relive way and vibe of doing things. This is our culture. It's everywhere, sometimes it is serious, sometimes less serious. From how we respect each other, the love for karaoke (of some people), the way we set up experiments, the honest feedback we give each other, how goal driven we are, etc, etc. It's hard to describe all these elements. We did try to capture the way we like to work in words.

Feedback

At Relive we like to speak up and learn how to step up our game. We like to say what we think, not what we think we should say. Being ourselves, straightforward and easy-going makes our team shine.

It's important to realise that feedback is a judgement on your performance on a particular task, instead of a judgement of your character.

Giving feedback often results in improved communication and better understanding of expectations between each other. Throughout our work we share and receive (small bits of) feedback. Besides the candor during the day, we also structure and plan moments to encourage feedback. We call this our feedback loop.

Every two weeks we check-in with each other during our one-on-one (a.k.a. 1:1). This is a recurring moment for you to connect with your lead and discuss thoughts, priorities, opportunities, team issues, and potential roadblocks

Two times a year we sit down to talk about how you're doing, what you're thinking and to make plans. These are the Halftime Check-ins and the Annual Appraisals.

Tools

Here are some of the core tools we use to get our work done.

Pencil Slite
This is our knowledge base. You're actually reading this page using Slite. We use Slite to document our processes, procedures, how-to's and much more.

Google docs are nice, but they are hard to find and reference. If there's something that you want people to reference or to live more than just a few days make sure it lives in Slite.

Shooting Star Linear
Product and Engineering use Linear every day to build our product. Everyone else can use it to check in on project progress.

Check Mark Button Asana
We use Asana to keep track of our (non-product development) tasks. Your first project in Asana is your very own onboarding.

🗂 Google (G Suite)
We use Google G Suite for email, calendars, spreadsheets and documents (Google Drive).

Speech Balloon Slack
We use Slack for internal communication. This gives us all the ability to keep in touch, no matter where we are.

Telephone Receiver Zoom
We use Zoom for meeting virtually. If you are comfortable with it, please turn on your cam, this improves communication as we don't miss on body language.
In company meetings, please make sure your mic is muted by default and unmuted when participating.
